Tara Gadomski is a Hungarian American multidisciplinary artist whose work spans filmmaking, acting, journalism, writing, audio production, and arts education. A Sundance Institute Knight Fellow, she spent more than two decades creating documentary and arts programming for the BBC World Service and now teaches with Philly Improv Theatre and The Unscripted Project, bringing improv theater to schools across the Philadelphia region.
As the recipient of the 2026 Tulipán Art & Culture Award, Tara will create Hunky, a short documentary exploring how immigrants from Greater Hungary reclaimed the ethnic slur "Hunky" and transformed it into a source of pride and cultural identity. Through interviews, archival footage, and dramatic audio recreations, the film examines the experiences of early twentieth-century Hungarian immigrants, many of whom worked as coal miners and steelworkers while building thriving communities whose legacy continues today.
Alongside the film, Tara will engage audiences in conversations about Hungarian American history, identity, and storytelling, using documentary filmmaking to preserve cultural memory and deepen understanding of the immigrant experience across generations.
