In partnership with the Arany János Hungarian School, the Tulipán Foundation recently hosted a lively Family Easter celebration at the Hungarian House of New York. This festive gathering, open to the public, kicked off a series of events honoring the 60-year legacy of the Hungarian School and brought together 150 participants for a day filled with joy and cherished traditions.
From the moment families entered the Hungarian House, excitement filled the air. Children and adults alike gathered around long tables, where traditional egg decorating took center stage. Using leaf patterning and natural dyes, participants worked together to create intricate designs, celebrating the beauty of Hungarian folk art. In another corner, sweet memories were made as Andrea’s Chocolate hosted a hands-on workshop where children joyfully decorated chocolate eggs, giggling while experimenting with a rainbow of colors and sprinkles.
While the egg-related activities kept hands busy, the arts and crafts table buzzed with activity as children crafted festive decorations. Laughter echoed through the room as families engaged in Easter-themed games, while others enjoyed screenings of classic Hungarian cartoons, delighting younger guests with beloved characters.
By far, the highlight of the day was our spirited egg hunt, which sent children racing through the space in search of hidden treasures. The event also featured a spread of traditional Easter foods, giving everyone a chance to savor Hungarian culinary delights and share a meal with friends, both old and new.
This year’s Family Easter celebration was more than just a seasonal gathering; it was a symbol of the strong sense of community that has grown over six decades within the Arany János Hungarian School. It provided a space for participants to connect through tradition, creativity, and play, reinforcing the cultural heritage that lies at the heart of Tulipán’s mission. We look forward to continuing this celebration of culture, tradition, and community in the months to come.
