We recently had the privilege of co-hosting "Egg-citing Illuminations" with the National Museum of Mathematics (MoMath) in New York. It was an unforgettable evening celebrating the mesmerizing artistry of decorated eggs and the rich traditions that bring them to life. This special event beautifully showcased the intersection of math and art, as participants immersed themselves in the timeless traditions of egg decoration found across the Carpathian Basin.

Attendees had the unique opportunity to explore the fascinating history and symbolism behind these intricate creations through interactive egg-decorating workshops. Guided by experts, families and individuals of all ages learned firsthand how geometry and mathematical patterns such as symmetry, tessellation, and fractals come alive on the delicate surface of eggshells.

The evening was filled with vibrant energy, as live Hungarian folk music created the perfect backdrop for a delightful egg hunt and other festive activities. Guests enjoyed delicious Hungarian baked goods and were able to take part in creative art projects to bring home a piece of the evening’s charm.

It was a night where tradition met innovation—where the beauty of folk art, the precision of mathematics, and the joy of hands-on creativity merged into one magical experience. Whether attending for the love of math, art, or simply the joy of discovery, Egg-citing Illuminations offered something for everyone.

We are proud to have brought this enriching cultural experience to life alongside MoMath, and we look forward to continuing to share these meaningful traditions with the world.
