On Friday, October 11, 2024, from 9am to 4pm ET, the Liberty Science Center will host the third edition of the Neumann Conference Series, organized by the Tulipán Foundation in collaboration with Dr. Tamás Novák, Science and Innovation Diplomat. Titled "Visionaries of the Future: Celebrating Mathematics, Science, and the Art of Strategic Play," this event honors the legacy of John von Neumann, whose groundbreaking contributions to mathematics, artificial intelligence, and game theory continue to shape modern science. The event will showcase how strategic play can serve as a powerful tool for learning and discovery, emphasizing the roles that games like chess and the Rubik’s Cube play in education.

The conference, held in the EY Conference Room, will feature a diverse lineup of distinguished speakers, culminating in a panel discussion titled "The Chessboard of the Mind: How Chess Cultivates Logic, Strategy, and Critical Thinking." This conversation between Judit Polgár, the greatest female chess player in history, and Paul Hoffman, President and CEO of Liberty Science Center, will explore how chess helps develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, reflecting von Neumann’s pioneering work in game theory.

As an extension of the conference, the Liberty Science Center’s main floor will host interactive public programming, beginning with the construction of a 1,000+ piece Rubik’s Cube mosaic, led by renowned cuber Dylan Sadiq, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Rubik’s Cube. Visitors will have the chance to participate in this creative process and try out the latest Rubik’s Cube products and games, offering a fun, hands-on exploration of the puzzle’s mathematical foundations.

The Third Edition of the Neumann Conference Series promises a unique fusion of intellectual exploration and interactive fun. From engaging conversations to the Rubik’s Cube mosaic, this event celebrates the power of games in shaping the future of science and education. We invite you to join us for a day that bridges the worlds of mathematics, the art of strategic play, and cultural heritage.
